What Causes Snoring?

So what is the cause of your snoring. You may not even be aware that you snore so you have never considered 'What causes snoring?" There can be many contributors that cause your snoring problem.

Snoring is described as vibrations from constriction of the airways of the respiratory tract. It appears during sleep and sometimes only when you are in a deep asleep. During the daytime restriction of the airways is called wheezing.

When the muscles in our neck become too relaxed we can experience a vibrating sound. The severity varies from person to person as pitch, tone and frequency all play a part. Men tend to snore louder than women but even babies can snore.

Here are some contributing factors which make you more likely to snore.

* Your sex can determine if you snore more and if your snoring is louder. A man's fuller neck seems to cause more men to snore than women.

* Age can contribute as snoring tends to get worse as we age because our muscle tone decreases.

* Sleeping on your back tends to stretch your neck and can increase the relaxation of your neck muscles. This can allow the air to move more forcefully through your nasal passage.

* Excess weight can increase you chance of snoring because excess weight usually indicates an overall weakness of muscle tone.

* Clogged nasal cavities due to allergies and colds can cause you to snore when you usually don't.

* Excess drinking again causes the neck muscles to relax more than usual resulting in louder snoring.

* Using medicine especially nasal sprays can dry your nasal passage.

* A large tongue, swelling of the thyroid, adenoids or tonsils and even smoking can obstruct your breathing passages.

So the cause of snoring can come from a variety of reasons, some your lifestyle some heredity and others only temporary.
